SilverFire mutates to “Verlängerte Bar” or “Endless Bar”

Since a few years I work an a idea called “SilverFire”.

The idea is to connect two parties using Video-Conferencing technology. People sitting in a Bar can talk to other people sitting in another bar, in another city, on another continent, drinking beer, chatting. The Video-Conferencing System connecting the party-people is an aid to create a global party. In full scale, each party can connect to more parties, if each party connects to three other parties, a network of parties, musik, communication, people emerges. A global SilverFire.

Info on the project is a little offline, because eaon had to lock down his wiki, but some blog posts remain:

So the “endless bar” or “verlängerte bar” concept would involve a setup such as this:

     video connection via Skype
Leo V Fra
Ingrid | Grenzfurthner
Martin | Evelyn
Katrin | Karin
in Kaiserslautern | in Vienna

The video-system should be placed at the end of a bar, or at the end of a table, so that the table is “enlarged” virtually.

Insipiration to this Event, and the name Silver Fire, came from the Greg Egan Story Silver Fire, a book that Malte Kiesel boworred me some time ago.

Next “Verlängerte Bar” will happen at the Kliklabor in Kaiserslautern.

Jetzt in Kaiserslautern: das KLIK-LOKAL

KLIKLOKAL

erster Stock in KLIKLOKAL

– Was ist T-City kaiserslautern?
– Thekenverlängerung: 2nd Life/Real Life.
– Live-Musik im Lokal mit Livestream ins Netz / Virtuelle Bandprobe
– Netlabel Abend
– The Great Escape XL
– Lautern im Web, Web aus Lautern
– Mehr als Fußall: High Tech in K-Town. Institute und Firmen stellen sich
vor.
– Schnitzeljagd durchs Netz
– Youtube Abend (Nostalgie mit youtube?)
– Wer weiß was? Großes WikiLautern-Inhalte-einstellen
– Myspace, Flickr, del.icio.us, etc.

Benjamin Horak’s ConTag won the IBPM Award on IBPM Kongress 2007

Benjamin Horak‘s Semantic Web 2.0 tagging system Contagwon the IBPM Award on IBPM Kongress 2007.

His Blog:
Today I was informed, that ConTag won the IBPM Award of the IBPM Kongress 2007 in Cologne.

I submitted it under the category of document management systems. If you are interested, come and visit me there (www.ibpmkongress.de/).

Again I want to thank Leo Sauermann and Dr. Thomas Roth-Berghofer for supporting me during the developement of ConTag.

Execution environment eclipse bug

Just to be googleable by others:

In eclipse development, after a few hours of wild guessing and changing configuration values, no OSGI plugins would compile anymore:

“Build path specifies unavailable execution environment.”
“The JRE container on the classpath is not a perfect match to the ‘J2SE-1.4’ execution environment”
“The required execution environment “CDC-1.0/Foundation-1.0″ does not match the runtime environment”

Basically it means that my newest JDK1.5 was now rendered less useless as J2ME. Which is somehow obviously wrong.

Ok, so it seems that this is somehow related to the product/application settings and extension points, because with a different product, it works just fine. ARGH

No solution yet.

Aperture MIME type Identifier rated best

Fred Eaker, a Software developer from North Carolina, tested different MIME-type Identification implementations available and wrote a blog post about it.

The result is, that our code from Aperture
performs with a significantly higher quality:
The detection accuracy of most libraries was less than 50%. However, the Aperture Framework’s MagicMimeTypeIdentifier was extremely accurate. It was able to correctly identify many proprietary formats.

Thanks to Christiaan Fluit, who developed that code and invested much much time into it.
