Today at quarter to 6, it was again flashmob time in Kaiserslautern. I enjoy the sparse breakouts of the town’s normality, especially on a mobile clubbing. Bring your own favorite music, shake freely. It was the best clubbing in town ever, seldomly I have seen so many happy people dancing in one place. No wonder, given the great music. I added some of my own to the soundtrack, bystanders heard nothing and wondered. Pics tomorrow.

Es ist verrückt, wir hatten in den ersten Tagen des Kriegs im Jahr 2003 gedacht das wird nichts mit Blitzkrieg, und leider ists wirklich daneben gegangen.

Sonntag, 20. Mai 2007 war in Kaiserslautern Permanent Breakfast Startfrühstück für diese Saison der dauernden Frühstücker.

Es war uns ein gemütliches Beisammensein beschert, um Sonntägliche gemütliche elf Uhr vormittags. Diesmal nicht so viele Leute wie letztes Jahr, aber das Essen war sehr gut.

Wie letztes Jahr gibt es auch dieses Jahr wieder ein Permanentes Breakfast: das immerwährende Frühstück. Immerwährend sind inzwischen elf Jahre, im Mai 1996 initiierte der Wiener Künstler Friedemann Derschmidt und seine Gruppe das “Permanent Breakfast”.

Die Regeln sind einfach: einer lädt zum Frühstück ein, alle eingeladenen Freunde bekommen ein ordentliches Frühstück im öffentlichen Raum. Am folgenden Tag frühstücken die eingeladenen und laden wiederum Freunde ein, die Kette setzt sich fort. Jedes Jahr gibt es üblicherweise Startfrühstücke am ersten Mai.

Organisiert wird das Startfrühstück von digitalen Kulturtreibenden in Kaiserslautern. Am ersten Mai wird ab 11.00 Uhr am Stiftsplatz gefrühstückt. Das hat zwar nichts mit digitaler Kultur zu tun, wird aber sehr viel Spaß bringen.

Bitte bringt mit:
* Tisch und Stühle (zur Not auch Decken, GymFitbälle oder ähnliches)
* und Verpflegung.
Das entstehende Frühstück soll formal als solches erkennbar sein, dementsprechend sind tageszeitungslesende Kaffegenießer in Lehnstühlen zurücklehnend am Butterzopf knabbernd ausdrücklich erwünscht.
Bitte beachten: es ist sehr wahrscheinlich, dass alle Geschäfte und Bäcker zu haben, also entsprechend vorsorgen. Bei Regenwetter? Als Kontaktmann für die Frage was bei Regen passiert dient Leo. Ruft mich einfach an: +49 176 24548974.

The dude behind Wired said in some interview I happened to see, that the culture is stretching out. Still, the big ones get 80% of the market, this won’t change, but the remaining 20% get split over a far bigger area and are increasingly important. I think he called it “the far end” or “the end of the curve”, whatever its called: Important is the fact that we are moving to microcultures.

When I visit a friend, we listen to a radio station only airing electro remixes of C64 songs, which you can receive on the net. See, its the dude from Kaiserslautern who enjoys electro remixes of C64 songs who is the market of tomorrow.

You will instantly see what I mean here and get a feeling for whats happening by watching it happen: I googled for videos on the nintendo WII and all I found was microculture:

So what do you do when you get hands on a WII controller and a DJ software? Nothing, if you are like me, but if you are DJ shift-1 and take your thing serious, you go for it. You remix it, you make a video out of it, you invest a few days of video editing and you happen to have a gig at bootiesf.com in may….

There is one thing in this for my own satisfaction: when I was dancing on any techno event years ago, I longed for this experience of controlling the music by dancing. So I am looking forward to the time this hits the markets and we have youths on festivals remixing and dancing their own music… not so far away, or? If it ever happens, drag me out of my adult life and force me to join it, perhaps I will be too conservative to dig it.

At the same moment, the authors refers to a wiki of the www.wiili.org developer hangout and an IRC channel on freenode.net about wiili, and doesn’t forget to mention that the music we hear is from his DJ friend djsbx.com who happens to publish his trance/house music freely on the internet.

These dudes are good in what they do, they do the right thing in the right way, respect. The second video shows how this guy connects to his peers using a wiki and an IRC chat, and that he gives credit to the guy doing the music. All is done by namedropping a few web addresses. I like this. Its not much effort, it doesn’t take many people or money to do it, but it reaches out.

Diesen Samstag hatten wir eine Powerpoint Karaoke im Kliklokal in Kaiserslautern, Schillerplatz 4. Ein schöner Event, vielleicht kommentiert ihr einfach unter den Bildern oder hier eure Eindrücke.

Insgesamt waren wir etwa 40 Leute, viele Folien, super Stimmung. Die Hütte war voll.

You think you are at the end of the world? You’ve not been to Kaiserslautern yet 🙂

I, urban, want to connect to people in big cities – to do this we have projects like “silver fire” or “endless bar”. We connect to people all over the world using Video-Conferencing software.

Last Friday we connected Kliklokal in Kaiserslautern with St Oberholz in Berlin. On the Kaiserslautern side were Martin, Katrin, Antoni, Jochen, etc etc on the Berlin side Richard and Arne.

Since a few years I work an a idea called “SilverFire”.

The idea is to connect two parties using Video-Conferencing technology. People sitting in a Bar can talk to other people sitting in another bar, in another city, on another continent, drinking beer, chatting. The Video-Conferencing System connecting the party-people is an aid to create a global party. In full scale, each party can connect to more parties, if each party connects to three other parties, a network of parties, musik, communication, people emerges. A global SilverFire.

Info on the project is a little offline, because eaon had to lock down his wiki, but some blog posts remain:

So the “endless bar” or “verlängerte bar” concept would involve a setup such as this:

The video-system should be placed at the end of a bar, or at the end of a table, so that the table is “enlarged” virtually.

Insipiration to this Event, and the name Silver Fire, came from the Greg Egan Story Silver Fire, a book that Malte Kiesel boworred me some time ago.

Next “Verlängerte Bar” will happen at the Kliklabor in Kaiserslautern.
